Not Hiking to Mary Jane Falls

You are probably wondering what the heck kind of blog title is that??  Well, I was going to put "Our Hike to Mary Jane Falls," but then that would be a lie!!  So I decided to be truthful and write what really happened.  Shaun had today off for Memorial Day but spent most of the morning at Urgent Care because he had rolled his ankle earlier in the week and the bruising kept getting worse and it was still swollen and a little painful after 5 days, which we thought was a little weird but maybe it's normal.  Anyways he went in this morning and had X-rays.  We figured it's better to be safe than sorry later just in case.  (Especially as I have lived on a broken foot for 3 weeks and didn't do anything about it until I broke it again and really couldn't walk).  Turns out it was just a sprain.  So what's the best thing to spend your day off doing then??  Let's go hiking is what Shaun said.  I must admit I was a little weary considering I had a good couple of Braxton Hick's contractions last night while we were hanging drapes, which aren't a big deal but considering I've never had contractions on my own before I was a little freaked out.  Not to mention my husband's bruised and swollen foot but what the heck, why not?  The kids really needed to get out and Shaun hates splash pads and it was too hot to go to the park.  So we headed up to Mount Charleston where it was a good 25 - 30 degrees cooler!!  Score.

Well, it was really busy and we had to park almost a half a mile or so away from the head of the trail, which was all up hill.  I got about halfway to the trail head and had a little contraction (again, freaking me out because I've never really had them before.)  But the kids were excited and I didn't want to give up on them so we kept going.  Made it to the trail head with no more problems.  We probably got about 1/4 mile up the trail (not super steep but uphill) and I had another one.  I got spooked a little Shaun said that we should probably sit down for a little while.  I felt like such a wuss because I don't like giving up.  So we stopped and ate our lunch and let the kids do what they really wanted to do; throw rocks and swing their sticks, which they couldn't really do on the trail because of all the people.

We ate lunch and packed the backpack back up and headed up the trail a little more and decided that after about 1/3 mile more or so that the trail wasn't going to flatten out anytime soon and that I really didn't want to have another contraction let alone have anything happen while we were out on the trail.  So we found a big rock for the kids to play on and then headed back down the trail.  Jake threw a fit the whole way because he wanted to keep going.  I felt so bad.  He kept saying that he wanted to go to Grammy and Paka's and that he didn't like me, he liked them. (We are going camping with them next week and he is really excited!)  Oh, well.  What's a preggo mom to do?

The kids must have had fun though because they zonked out in the car on the way home!!  Oh, and my awesome husband with a sprained ankle let us wait at the trail head while he hobbled back down the path and then up the steep hill to where our car was parked to bring the car to us so I wouldn't have to climb up the hill again!!  Which is the least he owed me since he made me take Savvy to the bathroom in the nasty, smelly outdoor potties.  I don't know what it is with this pregnancy but I can't do poop!!  I gag and sometime throw up and it makes me feel really sick.  Shaun refused to take her because he claims that he doesn't know how to take girls to the bathroom.  He's afraid she's going to pee all over the seat or something.  I don't know why it's so hard but there are so many other things that he does for me... I guess I should stop fighting him on this one!! :-)  All in all it was a really fun little day adventure even though we didn't make it all the way to the Falls!!
